Hi, Danny! It’s a great honor to have you here with us.
Could you start by summarizing your corporate career leading up to your role at 4Life?

Hello everyone! It’s a pleasure to be here as well.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Utah with degrees in Accounting and Finance (2000), I moved to Silicon Valley to work for Arthur Andersen Business Consulting.

Later on, I returned to Utah to join Overstock.com, where I served as Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller, and later as Senior Vice President of Operations.

Roles at 4Life:

In 2008, I joined the company as Chief Operating Officer; in 2016, I took on the role of Chief Marketing Officer; and in October 2017, I was appointed President and CEO.

Personal:

My wife, Tara, and I have five children. Two of them have recently gotten married.
I love reading and traveling to support affiliates around the world.
Although I live in the high desert of northern Utah, I absolutely love scuba diving—I’m a certified diver!

U.S. DSA Presidency:

In addition to my responsibilities at 4Life, I currently serve as President of the U.S. Direct Selling Association (DSA). In this role, my vision is to expand the positive influence of our industry among policymakers, legislators, and the general public.
We will achieve this by setting a positive example, working together, and focusing on debunking myths and negative stereotypes about our business model.

Excellent, Danny. What would you say has been your most significant achievement in the company so far?

It’s difficult to pinpoint just one significant achievement, because I truly believe that everything we do on behalf of our Affiliates is deeply meaningful. What I will say is that my achievements are not mine alone. They include the support of our corporate team and collaboration with Affiliates, both here in the United States and around the world.

David and Bianca Lisonbee built this great company on the principles of science-based, high-quality products, entrepreneurial success, and philanthropic service wherever we do business around the globe. So I feel deeply fulfilled to play a part in fulfilling their vision and contributing whatever I can to the success of the field.

What is your approach to designing new and innovative strategies that drive growth for 4Life Affiliates around the world?

Steve Jobs, the inventor of Apple Computers, once said that he didn’t hire smart people to tell them what to do. He hired smart people so they could tell him what to do.

Getting the right people involved in the decision-making process and then empowering them to do what they do best is, I believe, an essential element of our collective success. Relationships are key. We know that. And here at the corporate office, we strive to build strong relationships with each other, which we then extend to empower the field.

What are the most important values you believe are essential for continued success?

As I mentioned earlier, strong relationships are essential for success, as they are built on trust, respect, and a shared vision. As Bianca taught us, we must give in order to receive. And what we accomplish together is greater than what we can do on our own. Collaboration and a commitment to compassion are also important values.

What qualities do you believe a leader should have in order to create an inspiring environment within their company?

Leaders must be willing to listen. At the same time, they need to be ready to make tough decisions based on the best information available. Good leaders should empower others.

How does 4Life work with technology to enhance the customer experience and strengthen relationships?

4Life’s Chief Information Officer, Andy Weeks, and his team build everything in-house — from our apps to the back office and email platform, as well as reporting tools and international websites around the world.

Danny Lee with our partner and friend Cristina Quintal.

We own and control everything — we don’t rely on a vendor — which makes us agile when it comes to fixing issues and adding improvements. We can literally make necessary changes to any of our platforms quickly, based on field feedback. This is a true advantage for both our Affiliates and our customers.

Our IT team holds a weekly company-wide meeting to review changes and explore new ways to support our Affiliates. When someone joins 4Life, they gain access to a set of digital assets in which we’ve invested tens of millions of dollars over the years in development, improvement, and maintenance.

You’ve mentioned how impressive it is to see how many people identify with the vision of 4Life founders, David and Bianca Lisonbee, and how grateful they are for their legacy. Why do you think 4Life’s vision has captivated the world?

First, it would be remiss not to acknowledge the passing of 4Life Founder Bianca Lisonbee late last year, as it was an extremely difficult time for all of us. Ultimately, we came out of that experience more committed to the company’s future than ever before.

You see, Bianca was — and still is — the heart and spirit of this great corporation. She taught us to be dedicated to servant leadership, to always look for opportunities to help others, to stay strong for one another, and to give. Giving is a responsibility that comes with success. To whom much is given, much is required, right?
So I believe that Bianca’s purity and the beauty of her dreams create this gravitational pull that naturally draws people in.

Then there’s Dave’s unwavering commitment to scientific integrity, always staying at the forefront of research and development. We invest heavily in these areas, so when a customer looks at us, they say, “Of course. This is a company with a product line that doesn’t exist anywhere else. This is a company with a body of research that is truly unique in the world of nutraceuticals.”

Dave Lisonbee prefers that term over “natural supplements” because, I believe, it more accurately reflects his commitment to Transfer Factor and the science behind our incredible product.

Why has 4Life’s vision captivated the world? Because Affiliates in dozens of countries around the globe have found deep resonance with Dave and Bianca Lisonbee’s commitment to Bringing Transfer Factor to the World through science, success, service, and satisfaction.

Tell us about some highlights people should look forward to at 4Life conventions.

If you haven’t attended a 4Life convention, you need to. New science. New products. Connecting with like-minded people. Building people by developing relationships. Plus parties and tons of fun. Inspiring speakers. The list goes on and on!

What advice do you give to 4Life Affiliates?

Remember this: Dave and Bianca Lisonbee started exactly where you are right now. They refinanced their home to fund their company! They found the first distributor! And now look at this incredible corporation.

We all arrive here at our own ground floor. We’re still limited by the ways we choose not to engage. So, my advice to Affiliates? Attend a company opportunity meeting. Register for a convention. Invite your family and friends. Share the products with others. You will definitely face rejection and setbacks.

This reminds me of a story. In the early days of the company, when Dave and Bianca were trying to make payroll for their few employees, Bianca joked that she would go sell Transfer Factor on the street corner before accepting failure—haha.

My advice and challenge to all Affiliates? Embrace that kind of passion and commitment, and share the products, share your opportunity with others!

In an ever-changing business environment, how do you foster innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset within your team?

Stay open to opportunities that fall outside of what you’re currently doing. Success is less an achievement and more the result of planning and execution. Ideas come to those who collaborate. Our innovation in terms of products and science, and our commitment to entrepreneurship, are just as strong today as they were the day Dave and Bianca Lisonbee launched this world-class company.

Danny Lee with Nao Lau, Vice President of Global Markets.

What is your vision for the future of 4Life, and how do you plan to lead the company toward that future while positively influencing the direct selling industry?

The Lisonbees provided us with a foundation. It is our responsibility to execute, continue innovating, and support our colleagues whose interests align with ours. For more than twenty-five years, 4Life has been a steward of good business, corporate social responsibility, and compliance with the rules and regulations that govern our industry in the markets where we operate.

As members of the DSA, we respect our channel’s Code of Ethics. We are committed to self-regulation, as well as to the ongoing development of relationships with ministries of health, lawmakers, and policymakers around the world. I just returned from Washington, D.C., where I had meetings at the White House to brief President Biden’s administration on issues relevant to direct selling work. These are truly exciting times!

Danny, Agustín González thanks you for the interview with WiduLife. This interview is very special to us. There’s one question we always ask in our interviews: What do you think of us, WiduLife?
